The Grip:
John1:6-13
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
One of the things we learned from the previous verses is that Jesus is not just a great teacher and a miracle worker but the creator Himself. Our verses today began with a man who came to bear witness of the light a man sent from God. This is his identity, not by the evaluation of what he has and what man's opinion about him is, but by to whom he belongs, his commitment to his assignment. He was so certain of the father's design of him, he wasn't going to compete with any other person. God expects that we all understand our position in Him.
It is the responsibility of you and me to be able to explain to people why Jesus Christ is the Son of God, this is the wisdom of God, by so doing, we would be acting as "a man sent from God" just like John.
A man sent from God doesn't have a personal opinion or speculation, he simply bears witness to the truth already established...
We know a man is sent by God's not by preforming miracles but by his commitment to the will of the Father.
John further explains to everyone who believes his testimony of Jesus will be given a legitimate right to be called the sons of God. This new birth is beyond a natural conception, it has nothing to do with our lineage or whether we were wanted or unwanted child, but we are God's begotten, a special breed for his beauty and splendor
We received the right to be sons of God because we believe in the testimony and the revelation of Jesus Christ as being our source, our God and redemption. There is nothing else we can do to merit or sustain this right. It is also in this identity we receive the knowledge of our mandate. Glory!
Prayer focus: Father thank you for giving me an identity in Christ Jesus, thank you for giving me the right to call you Father, help me never to magnify anything else except this testimony. Amen!
