Let us now analyze our role in understanding man. The disciplinary measures taken by the Holy Spirit with us are God-given lessons that break us one after the other. Many breakings in many aspects of our lives are required for us to reach a point of usefulness. When we say we can touch another through the spirit, we do not mean we can touch all individuals in the same way, nor do we claim we can detect another person's spiritual condition in its whole. It is simply that we can touch someone in the area where we have been chastised by the Holy Spirit and broken by the Lord. If we have not been broken by the Lord in a certain area, we might not be able to meet the needs of our brother. At that time, our spirit is insensitive and powerless.
This is a spiritual fact that cannot be denied! Our spirit is liberated in proportion to the extent of our brokenness. The person who has absorbed the most discipline is the best suited to serve. The more broken one is, the more sensitive he becomes. The more one has lost, the more he has to give. Wherever we seek to preserve ourselves, we become spiritually ineffective. When we defend and justify ourselves, we deny ourselves of spiritual awareness and supply. No one should believe he can be effective while ignoring this fundamental principle.
Only those who have learned are eligible to serve. You can learn ten years' worth of lessons in a year, or you can take twenty or thirty years to learn one year's worth of teachings. Any delay in learning translates into a delay in serving. If God has placed a desire in your heart to serve Him, you should be aware of the requirements. The path of service is brokenness, embracing the Holy Spirit's brokenness. The degree of discipline and brokenness determines the value of your service. Be aware that human emotion or intelligence cannot assist.
How much you truly possess is determined by how much God has accomplished in your life. As a result, the more you deal with, the better your sense of man becomes. The more the Holy Spirit disciplines you, the more easily your spirit can touch another.
